The By Night regatta is one of Barcolana's pivotal events: the sun sets and the light beams come on, waiting for the breeze. The starting signal rekindles the ancient "feud" between the crews of the monotypes Ufo28, Meteor and Melges 24, with thousands of people crowding the docks the night before Barcolana to witness this exciting show. Barcolana by Night Regionale Cup, organised by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, is always a very popular event.
The buoy located right at the end of Canale di Ponterosso (Trieste's Grand Canal) is what makes the race even more exciting and engaging for the people cheering for their favourite boats from land.
