No Barcolana would be complete without its "by Night" regatta: the sun goes down, the floodlights come on and everyone waits for the breeze. The starting signal reignites the traditional rivalry between the crews of the Ufo 28, Meteor and Melges 24 one-design classes, in a regatta that becomes a spectacle for the thousands of people gathered along the waterfront on the eve of Barcolana. Organised by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, Barcolana Regionale by Night Cup is one of the events most eagerly awaited by the public.

With one of the course marks positioned in front of the entrance to the Ponterosso Canal, the racing becomes even more spectacular and engaging for spectators on shore, bringing the boats within metres of the crowd as everyone cheers on their favourite crew.

The Melges 24 (maximum 20 boats), Meteor (maximum 30 boats) and Ufo28 OD (maximum 15 boats) classes are eligible to participate. For the Melges 24 and Ufo28 OD classes, entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

For the Meteor class, in conjunction with the 53rd Italian Meteor Championship, taking place in Trieste from 6 to 9 October, the fleet will be selected as follows:

– 20 boats: the top 20 finishers in the Italian Championship;
– 5 boats: Under-25 crews, based on their ranking in the Championship;
– 5 boats: selected by draw from among the remaining entry applications.

The allocations are not cumulative: if an Under-25 crew is already among the top 20, the Under-25 place will be allocated to the next eligible crew in the Championship standings.
