EXTRAORDINARY PLAN FOR RAILWAYS AND LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The aim is to ensure the public can easily reach Trieste for the great sailing event and leave the city without difficulty after the Barcolana, allowing everyone to enjoy the spectacle of the world’s largest regatta without inconvenience, by making use of public transport and the extraordinary intermodal system. This is the objective of the BARCOLANA57 Transport Plan, drawn up for the occasion by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste, local public transport operators, Trenitalia and Trieste Airport, to guarantee easy access to the city and the seafront, as well as connections across the regional territory and return journeys during Barcolana57 presented by Generali.
The Plan provides for enhanced services and reduced fares to encourage the use of public transport.
Please note that during the Barcolana weekend the seafront (Rive) will be closed to traffic on the following days:
Friday 10 October, from 7.30 p.m. to 2.00 a.m.
Saturday 11 October, from 10.30 a.m. to 2.00 a.m.
Sunday 12 October, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
TRENITALIA – Trenitalia’s Regional Division, in collaboration with the FVG Region, is supporting Barcolana with 40 additional trains – 60,000 extra seats provided in the time slots covered by the extraordinary service throughout the event, including 30,000 on Sunday 12 October alone. On Saturday 4 October, Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, these services will supplement the regular timetable, strengthening connections to and from Trieste with Monfalcone, Udine, Pordenone, Sacile, Cervignano and Portogruaro. Together with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Trenitalia continues to promote train travel as the most ecological, convenient, economical and reliable solution for reaching holiday resorts, events, museums, nature parks, art cities, or medieval villages, in full respect of the environment. Further information on promotions can be found at www.trenitalia.com.
Special fares are also available to make travelling to the event by train easier:

The initiative aims to encourage the use of public transport (buses and trains) to reach Trieste easily and take part in Barcolana57 events, leaving cars at car park P8 and thereby helping improve traffic management in the city and promoting more sustainable transport use. The promotion is part of the partnership between Trieste Airport and Barcolana and will be advertised via the airport’s web and social channels, as well as those of Barcolana and other public transport partners.

This enhancement will make access to the Barcolana Village easier throughout the weekend, helping reduce both environmental impact and congestion in and out of Trieste. Additional services will be added to the regular journeys to and from Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.
To facilitate return journeys from Trieste, extra services will also be scheduled during peak demand hours between Friday and Sunday evenings, with extended night-time services between Trieste and Monfalcone. In this case, buses will continue beyond Monfalcone directly to the airport.
