THE LARGEST SAILING RACE IN THE WORLD
Trieste, 1 - 12 October 2025

Mooring Management

MOORINGS INFO

In order to carry out the regatta safely, considering all the regulations and prescriptions in force at the time of the event, it is necessary that all the boats registered in Barcolana 57 presented by Generali have a well-defined mooring.

Boats arriving from the most distant ports must indicate - at the time of the regatta registration- the planned mooring for the event (whether is booking in a marina, a berth at disposal or if it is requested one from the Organization).

The moorings provided by the Organization are until they last and can be requested during the registration phase by clicking on the option "I request a mooring from the Organization with this registration" when asked: "Mooring during the event".

In the full spirit of seafaring hospitality, we ask the Boat Owners that are normally moored in the municipalities of Muggia, Trieste, Duino-Aurisina and Monfalcone to reach the racing area on Sunday October 12th directly from their mooring, without stopping the days before or after the regatta moorings managed by the Organizing Committee.
These too must indicate their usual mooring during the event in the registration form.

If a boat arrives in Trieste asking for a free berth, without having requested it previously, she will not be accepted and will be sent back.

The moorings managed by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano are located in the area obtained temporary in concession from the Port Authority in the former Commercial Port of Trieste.

ARRIVAL PROCEDURE

1 - The boats approaching the Port of Trieste entering the "CALLING-AREA" (see drawing 1), must call the "Follow Me" Service on VHF channel 6 communicating:

  • BOW NUMBER
  • BOAT NAME
  • BOAT LENGTH OUTSIDE ALL
  • POSSIBLE SPECIAL SIGNS OF RECOGNITION.

2 - Once the vessel has been recognized by the "Follow-Me" Service, they will be asked to go to the "CHECK-IN POINT" at the following coordinates: 45 ° 39'10 '' N 13 ° 45'43 '' E (see drawing 1) where they will receive instructions to reach the berth.

3 - A "Follow-Me" Service rib will guide the boat to the assigned berth, where ground staff will assist with mooring operations.

4 - When the boat is moored, it will need to keep the assigned place for the whole duration of the event except if indicated differently form the Follow Me Staff.

USEFUL INFORMATION

It will be possible on arrival, previous written confirmation, to use the moorings from Tuesday  October 7th  from 10:00 a.m. (service start) to Monday October 13th at 12:00.

The "Follow-Me" Service operates at the following schedule:

Tuesday               10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Wednesday          10:00 am - 7:00 pm
Thursday             10:00 am - 7:00 pm

At the same hours it is available on VHF channel 6 or on mobile +39 331 4970731.

If a boat arrives in Trieste out of service hours, it will temporarily moor at the old breakwater (inner side in the first 200 m from the red light) and the following morning it will be moved to its mooring; therefore, the crew must be on board to make the relocation by 10:00 am.

The location of the mooring or the berth code of the boat will be announced by the "Follow-Me" only upon arrival in Trieste and not before.

Mooring requests not presented in accordance to the procedure will not be taken into account by the Mooring Office.
If a boat, for which NO mooring has been reserved, is moored in a mooring managed by the o
Organization, it will be removed and sent back.

The boats can be moored in various ways: alongside mooring (side), side by side mooring, Mediterranean mooring (stern - to) with buoy, with traction or anchor.

We therefore ask all boats that will need a mooring, as per the navigation code and general common sense, to present themselves with all the nautical technical essentials for a successful and safe mooring.

In particular, we would like to remind you:

  • ANCHOR of size and weight appropriate to the boat.
  • CHAIN and ROPE FOR ANCHOR for an adequate size.
  • A small buoy with line to set up a trip line useful for easy retrieval of the anchor in case of fouled anchors.
  • MOORING ROPES in number, size and adequate length.
  • Enough fenders to make you feel safe.
  • Eventual gangway to be able to go ashore easily.

WARNING in some areas of the port at low tide the docks may be up to 3 metres high.

WARNING if a boat with crew members with certified disabilities requires specific conditions for mooring please let us know as soon as possible by email: ormeggi@barcolana.it including the keyword DISABILITY in the object line of the email.

PLEASE NOTE that if a boat does not follow the instructions of the Organizing Committee, or does not behave in a appropriate way to a sporting event with the staff or other crews, point 17.3 of the Notice of Race signed at the time of registration will be applied.

We would like to remind you that the moorings given to the Organizing Committee are a temporary concession, not being a marina, are not provided with water and electricity supply for registered boats.

For more information to request from the MOORING OFFICE, you can send an email having the foresight to write:
  • BOW NUMBER
