Barcolana Sea Summit Day Two

Today was dedicated to science and business. While waiting for the presentation to be given by the Minister for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, Stefano Patuanelli, scheduled for 7.30pm, ISPRA AND INOGS spoke about the increasingly precarious health of the sea, with emphasis on the different kinds of pollution and the great risks the entire environment is running. Participating in the event were the chairman of WWF Italia, Donatella Bianchi, and the National Director of Marevivo, Carmen Di Penta, discussing the commitment of the environmental associations and the main projects underway.

Pascal Lamy and Maria Cristina Pedicchio illustrated the role and the effectiveness of the UE Mission Stella di Mare 2030. Next up was the world of business: Lucia Silva of Generali introduced the subject of sustainable projects in companies, developed later at the round table, chaired by the CEO & General Director of the Mib, Vladimir Nanut; Roberta Marracino (Head of Group ESG Strategy & Impact Banking UniCredit); David Brussa (Chief Sustainability Officer illycaffè); Eng. Michele Francioni (SVP MSC Cruises); Sonia Ziveri (Chief Sustainability Officer Davines Group); Emanuela Trentin (Siram Veolia Managing Director); Marco Lombardi (Acqualatina Managing Director); Filippo Bocchi (Director of Shared Values and Sustainability, Gruppo Hera); Renata Pascarelli (Quality Director Coop Italia) and Paolo Testini (CEO Office Manager Snam).

The announcement of the Coop Italia Managing Director, Maura Latini, was loud and clear: “Coop has always been involved in reducing the use of plastic, but today we have announced that we are going to ask our suppliers of the brand industry for an extra effort: to use recycled plastic of a variable percentage, with a minimum of 25% by 2024, thus anticipating the European Union’s goal”. And right here in Trieste the “Un mare di idee per le nostre acque” campaign came to an end, a campaign which foresees by the end of October the placement of 46 Seabins throughout Italy, which will contribute to the recycling of plastics and microplastics taken from the waters of the ports and docks.

The results of the campaign will be presented on October 8th, in a video shown during the session “Navigare nel futuro: l’economia circolare dello yachting” for the panel “Visioni sostenibili”, illustrated by the Marketing and Private Brands Director of Coop Italia, Paolo Bonsignore. The thirty-ninth Seabin will be inaugurated along the Riva Mandracchio at 9.30am, October 9th.

All the sessions of the Barcolana Sea Summit are available on streaming and recorded on the YouTube channel of the Barcolana: over 250 people, divided into the various categories, have participated in one of the first post-Pandemic conferences. Thanks to streaming, the virtual room of the event counted 150 people always connected throughout the day. The students of the Istituto Tecnico Nautico participated in the Barcolana Job session, whereas the students of the Istituto Tecnico Turistico had the opportunity to attend, with training hours, the presentation of these extremely important issues and to work at the same time, learning the various organizational phases of an international event.
