Barcolana Young, won by Mattia Di Martino (SVBG) in Division A and Ahnieshka Madonich (SVOC Team Ukraine) in Division B

A hasty bora left the race course too early this morning, so the second day of Barcolana Young saw little wind and one race held for the Cadets and two for the Juniors, for a total of 4 races in all for the B Division and 5 for the A Division.

The final classification therefore sees Mattia Di Martino - SVBG's ace sailor, fresh from winning the Italian single-handed classes championship - on the top step of the podium in Division A with 9 points (3,4,1,1), Jesper Karlsen of Fraglia Vela Riva, with 10 points (4,1,1,4), Tommaso Geiger with 12 (5,4,1,2), Cristian Castellan 13 (1,4,5,3) and Francesco Pilato with 14 (3,2,5,4), all from Circolo Vela Muggia, the club that won the Challenge Trophy. First female in Division A, Nina Cittar, from Società Triestina della Vela in 17th position with 34 points.

In Division B, first on the podium was Ahnieshka Madonich from SVOC - Team Ukraine with 4 points (2,1,1), followed by Luca Girani from CV Muggia with 9 points (4,2,3), Carolina Longo from Soc. Nautica Laguna with 12 (5,6,1,) and with 15 points Furio Corso from LNI Trieste (3,10,2) and Francesco Frisan from Società Nautica Pietas Julia (9,4,2).

As always, the regatta's prize-giving ceremony was highly awaited, with many prizes up for grabs - including an Optimist won by Eleonora Taccani from Società Nautica Pietas Julia - and the special visit of the regatta's testimonial, Francesca Clapcich, who greeted the youngsters and spoke to them about the Women in Sailing project realised by Barcolana with Generali.

"The 2023 edition," said the Sports Director of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano youth sector, Alessandro Bonifacio, "is a Barcolana Young that we will remember for a long time. It was a marvellous edition with two wonderful days at sea: an amazing Saturday with three races blessed with perfect conditions of sunshine and medium-intensity bora and a Sunday with a light mistral, two days of technically very good races that allowed the young athletes competing to have fun and prove their worth. There were many high-level athletes competing, 212 boats in the water, and a fine victory for our SVBG athlete Mattia di Martino, who took first place after five fiercely contested races".
