The trophy for the last to cross the finish line

Barcolana has presented a new trophy this afternoon, that will be added in this edition. The trophy will go to the last sailor to cross Barcolana’s finish line, who will receive it during the prize-giving ceremony.

“This trophy matches with Barcolana’s tradition and spirit – stated SVBG chairman Mitja Gialuz – and it was meant to reward the commitment of those who participate in the regatta with its original spirit, those who want to be here and have fun, but also participate and cross the finish line within the time limit, in a true competitive spirit. Everyone wins the regatta but the last one; but actually, also the last one “beats” the time-limit. We usually focus on the top of the place lists, but Barcolana’s message is wider: we now ask Barcolana’s public to suggest a proper name for this trophy. It is a symbol, a fourth prize that adds up to the those we give to the first three of each category, regatta and cruise. It pays a symbolical homage to participation rather than to the frantic race for victory and it is dedicated to all the people that invest their energies, time and enthusiasm to participate in Barcolana: without them, the top winners would be winners of a common regatta. I hope we can rely on the support of the skippers of the sailboats racing for the first place, united in this project to add value to participation.” In the meantime, the Fast and Furio team will return their trophy back to the organizing committee in a special ceremony.
