Barcolana 52 presented by Generali, started anti-covid screenings for large crews and foreign participants

Barcolana 52 presented by Generali comes to life this Friday, with a light wind and many stories to tell. The first is, of course, related to the contingent situation: this morning, the screenings for Covid-19 by the Azienda Sanitaria for the crews with more than 8 people started at Molo IV. Until tomorrow at 7pm, teams who have reserved through the Barcolana call center will carry out the rapid swab tests. Thanks to the joint work between the FVG Region, ASUGI Health Company and the Department of Civil Protection, more than 800 tests are scheduled for today. This morning, the first to undergo their tests were the sailors of Portopiccolo Prosecco Doc: half of the crew of the Supermaxi was on time at 9 o'clock for the appointment, while the other half -the team of the Persico 69F Circuit- will undergo the test tomorrow. In the first 90 minutes, 128 quick tests were carried out, with no positive results detected.

"Once again”- said Mitja Gialuz – “the commitment of many people, from volunteers to institutions, has allowed Barcolana to open a path. It was a challenge to organize these screenings: this is the first example of a way forward together, to make the events safe and to allow them to take place. We ask sailors to help us overcome this challenge, by being punctual for their appointments, devoting the necessary time to this step, and following the instructions of the health professionals”.

With a light wind this morning, the activities of Barcolana FUN by Siram Veolia continue: there are already about twenty sailing enthusiasts who have learned the basics of foil sailing aboard the Persico 69F. The Nastro Rosa also sailed on foils this morning, arriving yesterday in Trieste with their caravan, adding to the Gulf kite surfing and small catamarans for a series of exhibitions.

THE UNIVERSITY OF TRIESTE PREPARES THEIR WOODEN SKIFF - The University of Trieste also takes to the sea and does so thanks to the ingenuity of engineering students. Who says that wood is only good for building “traditional” boats? The students of the Naval Engineering Department in Trieste have designed and built a hull of 4.7 meters in length that aims for maximum speed: a skiff - that is, a boat equipped with “wings”, and a specifically designed keel - all made of wood that will participate and hopefully outperform its competitors in the next edition of the 1001VelaCup, the European university circuit of regattas to which student crews can participate with self-built hulls. The University of Trieste participates in the project with the Audace Sailing Team, who will be the protagonist at the regattas, but has chosen Barcolana 52 Presented by Generali to promote its project: the first boat was presented today, Friday, October 9 at 12:30pm at the Barcolana Infopoint.
We have chosen to support this project” - said the president of the Società Velica of Barcola and Grignano, Mitja Gialuz – “with the aim of giving even greater value to the collaboration that we have with the University of Trieste, and to support these young designers-sailors. They all have great ambitions and great technical skills as well as sporting skills, and their goal to build a hull with only eco-friendly materials, is a challenge that resonates well with Barcolana and its environmental message”.

WOMEN IN BARCOLANA: CELEBRATING POISON, MIRELLA POWERED BY WIQO’S MESSAGE, OLIVIA’S DEBUT, LARISSA’S TRAINING GROUND, AND THE YOUNG LINUSSI AT THE HELM OF ANEMOS – This year, in which the Barcolana poster depicts a young woman at the helm along the Barcolana route, women are protagonists in the regatta more than ever. Starting with the celebration of Poison, one of Trieste’s longest running female crews (although, the small Trieste UFO has hosted several men on board as well), which this Barcolana celebrates its  ten year anniversary: the perfect crew to represent the concept of diversity & inclusion, created by Francesca Settimo and Carlotta Cabiati, will be at the starting line in Barcolana and also the Barcolana By Night, supporting and promoting Lilt.
Coming from Portopiccolo is Mirella powered by WiQo: the sailor Margherita Pelaschier will helm it in the  Barcolana on behalf of the owner Mirella della Valle. The beautiful 14-meter-long sloop imparts a message for all women about the care and hydration of "sports skin" and the necessary protection, in all seasons, from the sun. Mirella powered by WiQo will also be at the starting line of the Barcolana Classic tomorrow morning. the daughter of Olympians Michele Paoletti and Giovanna Micol, the "mini Paoletti" made her the official debut in the Melges24 aboard "Strambapapà". Another Olympic sailor, Larissa Nevierov, trainer of the young athletes of Sistiana89, will be aboard a small and fierce hull of the Zero class. SVBG’s Alice Linussi, will debut at the helm of the 80-foot Anemos, an off-shore boat. Finally, Claudia Rossi of Ancona will be on board the family boat, the beautiful Supermaxi Woodpecker Cube.

MEETING WITH THE POSTER’S CREATOR - Lorenzo Mattotti, the designer of the poster of Barcolana52 commissioned by illycaffè, will be guest of Barcolana tomorrow night. Together with the creative director of illycaffè, Carlo Bach, Mattotti will present the poster of the regatta at 6:30 pm in Piazza Verdi as part of the event “Barcolana –un mare di racconti”. To participate you must make a reservation on the official website of Barcolana.

ARPA AT BARCOLANA - “Together for the sea and the environment" is the new proposal of Arpa FVG for the 52nd edition of Barcolana, an initiative designed to speak to a large audience about the sea and the environment. Moored on the Rive is the ship Effevigi, a small oceanographic vessel equipped with two different laboratories that allows the Regional Environment Agency to collect data, observations and biological samples throughout the Gulf of Trieste in order to determine its environmental and ecological quality.
On a broadcast, the Arpa technicians and sailors talked about the instruments and the on-board organization, the methods of collecting samples, the observations of the marine environment and everything that characterizes it and makes it unique.
Scheduled in the Piazza on Saturday, October 10th at 8 pm is the screening of " Le Voci del Vento (The Voices of the Wind)" by Tommaso Lessio, the new video produced by ARPA in collaboration with the media center Cinemazero of Pordenone.
