With the traditional flag-raising ceremony, which took place at noon today, Barcolana53 presented by Generali has officially begun. At the headquarters of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, to the sound of the fanfare, the club’s pennant, the Italian flag and the European were hoisted up, and now the celebrations can truly begin.
“We have worked for an entire year – commented the chairman of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, Mitja Gialuz – to get to today, the launching of the Barcolana53 presented by Generali. An edition that renews tradition, but guides us towards new routes, both on land and at sea. In a single day, today, the Barcolana returns and returns renewed: the first goal achieved was to see the large number of boats getting ready and arriving from all over Europe. We have sailors representing 20 different countries and it is an honour for us. A huge thank you goes to the big crew of the Barcolana, to the members of the SVBG, the Institutions, the sponsors and to all the sailors who will participate in this edition. It will be a colourful Barcolana, after the dullness of Covid”.
CONVENTION IN THE HARBOUR OFFICE – This afternoon, at the initiative of the Coast Guard of Trieste, the first institutional appointment will be held at the headquarters of the Port Authority with the conference “Trieste Marittima tra passato e presente”, which marks the beginning of the new routes of this edition, drawing attention to its history and the Navy’s role in the area. The event has united people who are passionate about the sea, who have built an economy around it, and it also means looking together at a future which, now more than ever, passes by the sea and is linked to the sea.
During the afternoon, the central part of the Villaggio Barcolana opened to the public: Piazza dell’Unità hosts the Gold Sponsors and the Institutions, the Info-point which sees the institutional presence of the presenting partner, Generali, with the project Women in Sailing, and the Prosecco Doc lounge furnished by Calligaris. The central part of the Village will be open tomorrow from 10am to 10.30pm, on Sunday from 10am to 9.30pm, from next Monday to next Wednesday from 12pm to 8pm, on Thursday 7th October from 10am to 10pm, on Friday 8thand Saturday 9th from 10am to 11pm, while on Sunday 10th from 9am to 8pm.
COOP AT THE BARCOLANA – The Coop is offering its visitors an immersive experience at its stand, simulating the life of fish besieged by plastic. It has also installed along the Riva Mandracchio, one of the latest Seabins of the “Un mare di idee per le nostre acque” campaign, aimed at recovering tons of plastic at sea. Furthermore, it is racing in the largest sailing regatta in Europe with two teams: the professional Anywave (already a partner in this campaign and promoter of the on-board Ecological Manager role) and the first crew composed exclusively of shop assistants or managers of various sectors, all strictly Coop employees, captained by the first Italian winner of the Mini Transat, Ambrogio Beccaria.
THE BARCOLANA TOGETHER WITH THE LOCAL POLICE FOR SAFE NAVIGATION – The Sala Luttazzi of the Magazzino 26, on the morning of October 6th (9.30 – 11.30), will host a meeting dedicated to students of the lower middle school and high school, aiming to train them in correct online navigation. The event is organized by the Local Police Department and the FVG Communication Department and the regional school board. There will be an exceptional guest, a representative of regional athletes participating in Tokyo’s Olympics and Paralympics. It will be possible to follow the event in streaming.
