Barcolana53 presented by Generali: the great celebration of Trieste

1650 registrations, the Bora featured heavily at the sea with the Barcolana Classic by Siad and the Barcolana by Night Snam Cup

There are 1650 registrations for the Barcolana53 presented by Generali. The regatta scheduled for tomorrow starting at 10.30am was preceded today by the great celebration of Trieste. The wind today was still strong and gusty, allowing the Barcolana Classic By SIAD to take place along with a part of the program planned for the Barcolana By Night SNAM CUP, with the small Meteor yachts at sea this afternoon, in the Bacino San Giusto. This morning the Società Nautica Grignano saw the One Design yachts as protagonists, with the Melges 24 and Meteor yachts at sea. Almost at dawn, the show of Ruggero Tita in Moth in the Barcolana FUN Siram Veolia challenging the gusts of Bora took place, a solo in Barcola that celebrated the attendance of Tita in 2006-2007 as an athlete of the SVBG, coached by Dragan Gasic.

It was a day full of sun, excitement and strong wind – commented the chairman of the SVBG Mitja Gialuzin which we rediscovered the spirit of the Barcolana and the celebration of sailing. The city transformed into the international sailing capital, with many distinguished guests and many sailors from all over Italy and abroad. As Ron Arad had predicted, with his manifesto, it is a Barcolana in colour”.

BARCOLANA CLASSIC – A great celebration of the ladies of the sea: the vintage boats participated today in an exceptional Barcolana classic by SIAD windward/leeward along the coast. A difficult race due to the continuous gusts which had the wind fluctuate from zero to twenty knots, a situation that made the event – which is also the last stage of the Aive Adriatic Circuit – spectacular and unique.
First at the finishing line was Darling III of Enrico Pellegrini. The category of the classic boats saw seven arrivals: in the lead Naif of Ivan Gardini (CV Ravennate), while Nembo II of De Manzini (YCA) took second place preceding Al Na Ir of Gianmaria Amatori (YCA).
The grouping of the Sciarelli A saw Attica of Maila Zarattini (STV) triumph, followed by the glorious Tiziana IV of Davide Battiston (YCA), while Sharazad of the Alunni Barbarossa brothers of the STV took third place. In sixth position the Sagittario of the Navy.
In the Sciarelli B Class, first at the finishing line was Stella Polare of Maurizio Planine (YCA).
Among the vintage boats, the victory goes to Ciao Pais of Massimo Fonda (STV) followed by Serenity of Roberto dal Tio (CV Conegliano).
Among the IORs – a new category added this year – Lola of Stefano Michelazzi (STV) won first place followed by Pioniere of Marco Penso (STV) and by Arundel of Arrigo Zorzut (DNSistiana).
In the Spirit of Barcolana 4 class, first place went to Darling III of Enrico Pellegrini (STV), followed by Carina of Marco Olivieri (SN Laguna), while the third place went to Palaia Tyche of Sebastiano Chigatto of the Compagnia della vela di Venezia. The SIAD trophy was assigned to Sorella.

BARCOLANA BY NIGHT SNAM CUP In the classic regatta of the day before the Barcolana, this year in partnership with SNAM, only the Meteor class competed: the Ufo and Melges 24, in fact, remained in the harbour due to the possible increase of the Bora during the evening. Among the Meteors, the race in the Bacino San Giusto saw the circolo velico Prix preside, with both first and second places: it was won by Pekoranera of Davide Sampiero, followed by Basilisco of Matteo Sampiero. Third place went to Avance de Galera of Roberto Capozza (CV La Spezia 75).

ONE DESIGN – The One Design race, organized by the Società Nautica Grignano, saw Destriero of Davide Rapotec (STSM) as winner among the Melges, and Senza Intoppi of Andrea Piazza (Lago di Ledro) among the Meteors.
