From “Go To Barcolana from Ravenna” to “From Barcolana To Ravenna”. The event organized by the Circolo Velico Ravennate and the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, has changed direction so as to adapt to the weather forecast. The weather models foresee Sirocco winds (favourable for sailing up to Trieste from Ravenna) between Tuesday and Wednesday, and strong Bora between Thursday and Friday: in the light of this the organizers have chosen to invert the regatta, changing the direction of the route, anticipating the transfer from Ravenna to Trieste and transforming the journey towards the South into a regatta at the end of the Barcolana, with the start at 6.30pm on Sunday October 10th.
The new arrangements of the event will allow the crews to find themselves sailing downwind, thus reducing the journey time: “This decision was taken so as to keep the event safe and prevent the sailors from having to tackle strong winds in the Upper Adriatic on Friday – explained the organizers – which could delay and complicate their arrival in Trieste”.
The spirit of the event remains intact and that the first and prestigious Hera Group Trophy at stake is confirmed: the briefing of the regatta – the registrations remain open until October 9th – will take place in the Barcolana Lounge of Piazza Unità on Saturday October 9th at 4pm (the time slot when the award ceremony would have taken place), whereas the start is scheduled for Sunday at 6.30pm, one hour after the time limit for crossing the finishing line of the Barcolana.
With the event organized this way, those participating in it can not only include the yachts returning to Ravenna – almost thirty – but also those who will be sailing along the Adriatic to reach ports even further south. All the information and documentation of the regatta are available on the website of the Circolo Velico Ravennate and on www.barcolana.it, under “events at sea”.
