Barcolana - News01.10.21

Today the Melges24 regatta and the Portopiccolo Maxi Race 2021 @Barcolana have begun

At sea, with the Bora decreasing, the first races of Melges24 and Portopiccolo Maxi Race 2021 @Barcolana took place.

MELGES 24 @BARCOLANA - Organized in partnership with the Società Triestina Sport del Mare, the first day saw three windward/leeward races: at the top of the provisional ranking is Melgina of Paolo Brescia for Yacht Club Italiano (Simon Sivitz Kosuta, Jas Farneti, Riccardo Tonini, Jan Bassi) with two first places and one second place, followed by Skorpios of Alberto Venuti (Antonio Masoli, Andrea Micalli, Tito Rodda, Francesco Zovi – temporary first position for the Corinthian category with a fourth, a fifth and a seventh place) and by Arkanoé by Montura of Sergio Caramel (Portodimare).

PORTOPICCOLO MAXI RACE 2021 @BARCOLANA - In Portopiccolo, after the competitors’ briefing, the six yachts of the Portopiccolo Maxi Race @Barcolana competed in a triangular race circuit of 9 miles. Gentle wind at the start with 10-12 knots, decreasing later to 6. Tomorrow a new race is scheduled, whereas on Sunday the regatta will take place as the 50th edition of the Bernetti, organized by the Società Nautica Pietas Julia. There are six boats competing in the regatta, in order of arrival: Arca Sgr of Furio Benussi, Anywave-Safilens of Alberto Leghissa, Anemos of Marco Bono, E-Vai of Gabriele Lualdi, Pegaso of Massimo Boccolini, Brava of Francesco Pison.

BARCOLANA YOUNG – There is nothing “small” about Barcolana Young, other than the age of the sailors, born between 2006 and 2012. As for the rest, it is a big event, full of enthusiasm, competition and a desire to have fun. This year too, it is up to the young sailors of the Optimist Class to inaugurate the week of regattas organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, descending into the water from the Molo IV – the operating base of the event supported by the Fondazione CRTrieste – and providing the public with the marvellous sight of hundreds of “young sails” not far from Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia. There are 220 young sailors registered for the event, from 24 different sailing clubs and representing five different Countries, including teams from Ukraine, Slovakia and Greece. The program foresees the briefing (online) on Saturday morning, followed by the first races at sea for both the Cadets and the Juniors. The weather forecast promises well, with perfect sea breezes for the regattas of the young sailors.
