Barcolana, the Coast Guard, and Insiel developed the YouSeaMe app, which will be tested during the Barcolana on Sunday.
Download the app on your smartphone (either Android or iOS) and you will be able to request assistance at sea and your exact location will be identified.
Using the app is very easy: first, register with the same email you used to register for the Barcolana54 presented by Generali, and provide your sail number.
Remember to activate the localisation function and enable the app to use it to localise your smartphone in case of need.
The app is now ready to be used: if you need assistance on your vessel, just press the SOS button and your location will be sent to the operations centre of the coordination hub, which will contact you and send an assistance vessel.
The app is in its experimental phase now and must only be used for assistance requests to solve technical problems concerning your boat, and not for emergencies. In the event of emergencies, use the communication systems mentioned in the sailing instructions.
You can install the app on multiple smartphones using the same login credentials, provided that the smartphones are on the same boat.
The service will be operational from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday 9 October.
We recommend taking your smartphone charger with you to always have your phone on.
