With the bora blowing at dawn and the moon still shining in the sky, Barcolana FUN has kicked off this morning. At 6:30 a.m. wings, kitesurfs and windsurfs took to the water for the new edition of this event dedicated to foil disciplines, which are the most innovative to be included in the Barcolana. New rules will allow foiling enthusiasts to participate at their own convenience: in the time window between today and 6 October, all specialists of these disciplines can participate and send their GPS signal certifying their performance. Once the route, speed, jumping, and miles covered have been verified, a ranking will be created for each discipline. This morning participants were called by the bora blowing at dawn: all over the Gulf, some of the best local talents brought their alarm forward to track their performance at sea at dawn, putting their Sunday to good use. “Barcolana FUN is an event that allows us to involve all enthusiasts around the Gulf who consider sailing as their personal challenge against the wind,” explained sports director Dean Bassi. “Going out in the moonlight is always exciting, and the first GPS signals we have received on the event’s control system are promising in terms of performance. The bora will probably be back on Thursday this week, which means that the challenge has only just begun.”
