Barcolana Young: registrations are now open

Registrations are now open for the Barcolana Young, the regatta dedicated to the Optimist Class that traditionally opens the Barcolana week.
"Barcolana Young is one of the unmissable events of every edition," said SVBG chairman Mitja Gialuz, "it is a very important moment as it embodies the authentic spirit of the Barcolana, characterised by sharing, passion and fun. Observing the many young sailors participating with commitment and enthusiasm in this initiative is a source of great joy; they are the future generation of sailors, the youngest members of the unique crew that is the Barcolana, and every year they give life to an extraordinarily beautiful show".

Organised by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano with the support of Fondazione CRTrieste, Barcolana Young is scheduled for Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October 2023: three races a day, for a total of six, with the first race signal scheduled for 12.00 noon on Saturday 30 September, preceded at 10.30 am by the Coach Meeting; racing will then continue on Sunday 1 October, with the last possible start at 4.00 pm. At the end of the weekend there will be the prize-giving ceremony with the awarding of prizes - including the Perpetual Challenge Trophy "Barcolana Young", which will go to the club that in the final classification will have classified with the lowest score the first three athletes in Division A (sailors born from 2008 to 2012) and the first two athletes in Division B (sailors born in 2013 and 2014) - and the drawing of the numerous gadgets offered as prizes by the sponsors of the event, including an Optimist hull and 10 Olimpic Sails.

Starting this year, Barcolana Young will also be part of the Adriatic Golden Series powered by Sailing Point, the new Optimist regatta circuit organised by Pirat Sailing Club of Portorož, Club Nautico Triestino Sirena and Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano with the aim of further strengthening the ties between the clubs and promoting the exchange of good practices in the organisation of sports events. The circuit consists of four regattas: the Sailing Point Easter Regatta in Portorož held in April, the 10th Meeting of the Adriatic to be held in Trieste from 22 to 24 September organised by CNT Sirena, the Barcolana Young organised by SVBG, and the Halloween Regatta to be held at JK Pirat from 20 to 22 November, which will decide the winning Club of the Circuit.

"The Barcolana Young continues to be an important event for many young sailors," said SVBG youth sports director Alessandro Bonifacio, "an appointment in the sailing calendar that goes beyond a simple regatta and that over the years has become a sort of rite of passage for Optimist Class sailors. With each edition, our aim is to improve the quality of the event more and more, both at sea and ashore, and to highlight the great work that the sailing clubs do all year round for the youngsters. For this reason we wanted to create, together with the Pirat Sailing Club of Portorož and our neighbours from the Club Nautico Triestino Sirena, the Adriatic Golden Series powered by Sailing Point, a circuit that unites clubs and athletes and that wants to emphasise the fundamental role that these moments of healthy sport play in the growth process of our athletes".

The logistical base of Barcolana Young will be Molo IV and great attention will be devoted to the management of the event both at sea and on land. Registration is open at www.barcolana.it until 23:59 on 27 September 2023; all regatta documents can be consulted and downloaded on the website.
