On the occasion of the 55th edition of the Barcolana presented by Generali, scheduled for Sunday 8 October, two government representatives will be in Trieste. Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, will arrive in the late afternoon of Saturday and will take part in the regatta aboard Prosecco Doc on Sunday. Andrea Abodi,Minister for Sport and Youth, will be in Trieste on Sunday, will follow the regatta and award the prize together with the Barcolana’s President Mitja Gialuz.
More than 15,000 sailors will be in the city for the world's largest regatta, which is listed in the Guinness World Records. This includes Austrian sailor Hans-Peter Steinacher, two-time Olympic gold medallist in the Tornado class (2000 and 2004), and ocean sailor Francesca Clapcich, the first Italian woman to win the Ocean Race, the round-the-world crew race. Clapcich is also the testimonial of “Women in Sailing”, a project carried out with presenting partner Generali which aims at increasing the visibility of female leadership in sailing.
Wendy Schmidt, the American sailor and philanthropist who won last year’s edition of the regatta, will also be in Trieste.
