Barcolana - News21.08.25

Registrations open for Barcolana Maxi Trofeo Portopiccolo, Solaris Adriatic Cup and the Para Sailing European Championship.

As Barcolana57 presented by Generali sails towards the milestone of 600 participants, the organisational engine of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano is in full swing, with registrations now open for another “set” of regattas to be held between 1 and 11 October.
Taking centre stage is the Barcolana Para Sailing – Eurosaf Inclusive European Championship 2025, the European Championship for the Hansa 303 class organised by Barcolana together with the Società Triestina della Vela, alongside the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup and the Barcolana Maxi Trofeo Portopiccolo. Meanwhile, 1 September will see the opening of entries for the inaugural Barcolana TriEste24 European Championship.

“The sporting structure of the two weeks of Barcolana is now clearly defined,” explained Mitja Gialuz, President of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano,“and this allows us to expand and promote the event well in advance. Never before have we had such a significant sporting programme, with two European Championships embedded in the Barcolana calendar. In particular, we have worked closely with the Triestina della Vela to create the best possible Para Sailing event, giving the Hansa 303 European Championship the visibility, recognition and sporting value it deserves.”

BARCOLANA PARA SAILING - Entries are now open at www.barcolana.it (Para Sailing section) for the Hansa 303 European Championship, organised by Barcolana and the Società Triestina della Vela under the auspices of World Sailing and the European Sailing Federation. The event opens on Wednesday 1 October with the opening ceremony and concludes on Sunday 5 October with the prize-giving. Based at Bacino Zero in the Old Port, and run by STV and SVBG, the Championship is expected to welcome over 40 two-person crews to the start line. The Barcolana Para Sailing – Eurosaf Inclusive European Championship 2025 promises to be one of the most eagerly awaited events focused on inclusion. The Hansa 303 is the most widely used boat in disabled sailing, both for single- and double-handed racing, and is an ideal training boat that perfectly embodies the spirit of inclusivity, with many mixed crews – in line with the Women in Sailing by Generali project that Barcolana has promoted since 2019 together with its presenting partner.

“We are proud to contribute to the organisation of such an important event,” commented Marina Simoni, President of the Società Triestina della Vela. “We strongly believe that sport, even before sailing, is an extraordinary tool for genuine inclusion. Our experience in hosting para sailing events is rooted above all in the passion and dedication of our volunteer members, who make sailing truly accessible to everyone. Hosting such a prestigious European Championship under the aegis of FIV and World Sailing is both an honour and a responsibility that we embrace with enthusiasm and commitment.

BARCOLANA SOLARIS ADRIATIC CUP - Following the great success of last year’s first Adriatic edition of the Solaris Cup at Barcolana, the event returns for owners of yachts built by the renowned Aquileia shipyard. On 9 and 10 October they will compete in a series of ORC-handicap races ahead of the Barcolana Autumn Cup. With its base along Trieste’s Rive, the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup promises to be both a celebration for the crews and a chance for redemption after the spring regattas in Sardinia. Registration details are available on the dedicated page of the Barcolana website.

BARCOLANA MAXI TROFEO PORTOPICCOLO - Also opening today are registrations for the Barcolana Maxi Trofeo Portopiccolo, the competition for yachts over 16 metres entered in Barcolana. Based at Portopiccolo, the “Maxi” is now in its ninth edition and adds excitement to the contest among Barcolana’s largest yachts. The races are sailed under the ORC rating system, with one race held on the actual Barcolana course – a true pre-test ahead of Sunday’s regatta.

BARCOLANA TRIESTE24 - On Monday 1 September registrations will officially open for Barcolana TriEste24, the first edition of the Este24 European Championship, scheduled from 9 to 11 October and also valid as the fifth and final leg of the Italian circuit. In addition to the Championship races, the Este24 fleet will also take part in a stadium race on Friday 10 October and in the Barcolana itself. More information on the various regattas is available at www.barcolana.it, where links can be found to the Racing Rules of Sailing pages for each event.
