Registrations open for Barcolana Young
Registrations are now officially open on www.barcolana.it for Barcolana Young, the regatta dedicated to the Optimist Class which, as tradition dictates, takes place in Trieste on the weekend preceding the Barcolana Autumn Cup, scheduled this year for Sunday 12 October and preceded by 11 days of events and races.
“Barcolana Young is an event we feel deeply connected to,” said SVBG President Mitja Gialuz, “because it embodies the future of sailing. Here we see young sailors approaching the sea with passion, courage, and curiosity: a mix that makes this regatta unique and unlike any other. During this weekend, Trieste truly becomes the place where passion meets the sea and where every young sailor writes their own chapter in the great story of the Barcolana.”
Barcolana Young will take place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 October 2025: up to three races per day, with a maximum of six in total. The warning signal for the first race is scheduled for 12:00 noon on Saturday 4 October, preceded at 10:30 a.m. by the Coach Meeting. The last possible start will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday 5 October. The weekend will conclude with the prize-giving ceremony, including the award of the Barcolana Young Challenge Trophy, which will go to the club with the best overall score obtained by the top three athletes in Division A (born 2010–2014) and the top two athletes in Division B (born 2015–2016). In both divisions, prizes will be awarded to the top five overall and the top three female sailors.
“It is always a great source of pride to see our young sailors facing the sea with enthusiasm and determination, living their passion in such a unique setting as the Gulf of Trieste,” highlighted SVBG Youth Sports Director Alessandro Bonifacio. “For many of them, Barcolana Young is their first experience in an international event, and it represents an essential step: it fosters not only sporting growth but also a deep connection with the sea and with the values of sailing, values that will stay with these young people throughout their lives.”
As in previous years, Barcolana Young 2025 will be part of the Adriatic Golden Series, the Optimist regatta circuit organised by JK Pirat of Portorož, Club Nautico Triestino Sirena, and the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, with the aim of further strengthening ties between clubs and promoting the exchange of best practices in the organisation of sporting events.
Barcolana Young is organised by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano with the support of Fondazione CRTrieste; event partners include Acqua Dolomia and Murphy&Nye, exclusive clothing partner of the Barcolana, which has designed the official T-shirt and regatta bag. The regatta base will be located at Molo Zero, Porto Vecchio, Trieste.
Registrations will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on 1 October 2025 on www.barcolana.it, where all race documents are available for download.
