The Region’s office for infrastructure and transport has made great organisation and coordination efforts to simplify arrivals in Trieste during the long weekend of the Barcolana. All of Venezia Giulia’s passenger transport services have joined, including Trenitalia, APT Gorizia and TPL FVG for regional transport. From tomorrow until Sunday, many bus and train lines will be boosted to meet the needs of the public and the regatta participants, in a common effort to free the city from cars in the days of the Barcolana. The city’s waterfront in front of Piazza dell’Unità will be closed to traffic from 7.30 p.m. on Friday until the end of the regatta on Sunday.
Tomorrow passengers below 26 years of age will get a 20% discount for travelling to and from Trieste from all over Friuli-Venezia Giulia. From tomorrow until Sunday, there is a 1+1 promotion available: children under the age of 12 who are accompanied by a person aged 26 or more can travel free of charge to and from Trieste from all over Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The FVG Weekend Promo, which grants a 20% discount on all trains, is also active for everyone travelling within the region.
From midnight until Sunday there is also a parking promo at the P8 area of Trieste Airport in Ronchi dei Legionari, in front of which you can find a train stop to reach Trieste. Daily parking costs €3.
As for regional transport by sea, additional runs of the Delfino Verde boat from Muggia to Trieste are planned for the weekend, with ten departures between 6.45 a.m. and 7.35 p.m.
Starting tomorrow, APT Gorizia will also increase the number of rides by bus from Trieste Airport to Trieste, thus connecting Monfalcone, Duino, and Sistiana to the Barcolana. In addition, APT Gorizia has set up a wonderful bus with Barcolana advertising. As already mentioned, the number of bus lines in Trieste has also been increased; TPL also offers the Park & Bus promo, which allows those who park in the suburbs of Trieste to get a discounted ticket to take the bus and reach the city centre. You can find more information on the discounts on the website of each transport service.
Fondazione FS has organised for Sunday a new appointment with the ETR252 “Arlecchino”, the legendary train that was renovated by the Fondazione FS Italiane to provide top-level tourist services on the country's most beautiful railway lines, a symbol of “made in Italy” and of the economic boom of the 1960s. On Sunday, 9 October tourists will have the chance to travel from Venezia Santa Lucia to Trieste Centrale for the Barcolana54, the international sailing regatta that attracts thousands of tourists every year. The train will leave at 7.52 a.m. from Venezia Santa Lucia station and will arrive in Trieste Centrale at 10 a.m. There will be no intermediate stops.
