With the opening of Barcolana Village along the Rive and the new Village in Borgo Cavana, Barcolana57 presented by Generali enters its full swing: the great sailing festival illuminates Trieste with hundreds of events, exhibitions, meetings and shows. At sea, the third edition of Barcolana Maxi – Portopiccolo Trophy has commenced, reserved for hulls over 16 metres, organised by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano with Yacht Club Portopiccolo. The first day of racing off Sistiana saw a light breeze accompany five maxi yachts in the first inshore race, whilst awaiting the completion of the fleet on the occasion of the trial on the Barcolana course scheduled for Friday. Meanwhile, on land, at the Generali Convention Centre the fifth edition of Barcolana Sea Summit was inaugurated, the international forum dedicated to sustainability and maritime culture, which also witnessed the opening of the 2025-2026 Academic Year of the United World College of the Adriatic, underlining the connection between education, research and international cooperation. From tomorrow the boats will compete in a coastal trial towards Trieste, a prelude to Friday’s final race along the Barcolana course. Meanwhile, anticipation grows for Sunday’s grand regatta, with already over 1,600 entries and a festive atmosphere spreading throughout the city.
BORGO CAVANA - The pulsing heart of the city, Borgo Cavana returns as protagonist of Barcolana with a project that unites culture, music and creativity. The neighbourhood’s streets transform into a great distributed village, between exhibitions, shows and workshops, thanks to collaboration with Casa della Musica and local merchants. From Thursday to Sunday the calendar proposes events for everyone: from Adriano Giraldi’s “Maldobrie” to concerts by DANKA and Swing à la Carte, from upcycling and furoshiki workshops to performances by Maxino and Flavio Furian. The days will culminate on Sunday 12 October with the musical evening Sagravana, a sonic journey between soul, blues and singer-songwriter music that will close the week of celebration in the heart of Trieste.
SAILING AT THE CENTRE: THE MARINA MILITARE NASTRO ROSA TOUR MEETS BARCOLANA - The World Tour of Ship Amerigo Vespucci and the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour are among the protagonists of the 57th edition of Barcolana. The project “Vespucci World Tour and Villaggio Italia” returns to Trieste with a dedicated area in Piazza Unità d’Italia, where the public can discover the enterprise that is bringing Italian excellence to the world. On Friday 10 October at 3:30 PM, during the meeting “Sailing at the centre: the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour meets Barcolana”, an important innovation will be announced: from 2026 the regatta “Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Il Veloce”, the longest in the Mediterranean, will conclude precisely in Trieste on the occasion of the 58th Barcolana. The panel will feature representatives from the Marina Militare, Difesa Servizi, Barcolana, the Ministry of Tourism, the Italian Sailing Federation and SSI Sport & Events, with moderation by RAI journalist and sailor Giulio Guazzini. An appointment that celebrates sailing as a symbol of connection, development and sustainability along Italian routes.
THE BOATS OF LEGALITY - Eight “boats of legality” from the Italian Naval League, sailing vessels confiscated from organised crime and dedicated to victims of mafia and terrorism, have arrived in Trieste to participate in Barcolana 57. The vessels are part of the “Mare di Legalità” project, an LNI initiative launched in 2024 with support from President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, which promotes education in legality, social inclusion and environmental protection through sailing. The presentation event, “Mare di Legalità at Barcolana”, will take place on Thursday 9 October at 12:30 PM at the Trieste headquarters of the Naval League. During the week, the boats will be protagonists of activities with local associations dedicated to disability, will participate in the Owners’ Regatta and will take part in Barcolana on Sunday 12 October, bringing a message of legality and solidarity to sea. This year’s innovation includes guided visits to the Lanterna lighthouse, historic headquarters of Trieste’s LNI, organised with FAI until 11 October.
EDUCATION: ROSOLEN, BARCOLANA CHEF JUNIOR BRIDGE BETWEEN SCHOOL AND WORK - Barcolana Chef Junior is born, the new contest promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region for students of institutes and professional training entities in the restaurant sector. Scheduled for Friday 10 October at Porto San Rocco, the event will offer students the opportunity to attempt the preparation of a dish inspired by the sea and Barcolana sardines. As assessor Alessia Rosolen emphasised, the initiative represents a genuine bridge between school and work, valorising talent, creativity and sustainability in a sector rich with opportunities.
